Hello all BYC'ers
I have 19 chicks in a brooder in the garage and 6 hens out in a coop large enough for 30. We have a fenced in run, a fenced and netted grazing area, (nets are for the hawks), and 3 + acres for them all to free range. Its going well.
I would like to ask if anyone could identify this yellow chick in the picture. I bought two of these yellow chicks when I bought the others a month ago. These two chicks are easily 3 or 4 times the size of the other chicks. I was told they are "not layers". As a newbie to chickens in general, I bought them because they were cute. They are far FAR from cute now. They are so big and they eat so much food its hard to watch. They seem genetically lazy, and never take more than 3 or 4 steps before they lie down. I raised the feeder so that they couldn't lie down and eat, which was just offensive to watch.
Is this an ugly duckling waiting to become a beautify swan, or is this some abnormality that should be culled from the group?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
