Hello all. I have raised my chickens for the past 3 years. This year is tough. I lost a darling Wells Summer in January to a predator and now my Leghorn is ill and will not make it much longer. I am a basketcase. Sorry I am not sure how to approach the subject.
How do I handle the end of her life? Do I have a vet put her to sleep? Should I let her live out the rest of her days at her home coop? Or is there someone local that
can assist? I just do not want her to suffer. Uggh, this is so tough.
Thanks for any advice.

I disagree. I've seen a surprising number of chickens rally from even the worst illnesses. My theory is to make them as comfortable as you can. I would leave her in her coop if that is where she is happiest. A lot depends on her condition and what is wrong, but chickens don't feel pain the way we do. Offer her a bit of sugar water and salt and make sure she is at a comfortable temperature. If a bird is sick they do better with heat.
