One of my eggs (5 total) has been moving for 2 day. Started hearing him peep inside about 7 hour ago. Seems he pretty recently made his first pip. BUT it is a tiny tiny pip. Not a big hole where he can stick his beak out. Hasn't made the crack any bigger in the past 2 hours. Is this normal? I know it is not uncommon for them to take a break after they pip but this isn't even completely broken throuhh the shell yet. Just a tiny raised "V" shape. We are on day 22. Temp 100 humid 64. Syrofoam still air. Help on what to look for or timeline or reassurance please

Yes, that's completely normal. It's possible they will stay like that for hours before making obvious progress. If you want to keep it motivated and are able to, play this near the bator every once in a while after the pip and back to back during the zip. If there's no progress after 12 hours and you feel the need to pick a little shell off the bump to reassure yourself, I won't tell anyone

But I wouldn't try to do anything more than that until at least 18 hours after the pip unless there are signs of distress. I'm betting that if you play the "chick music" a few times you'll get him to make a tad bit of progress on the pip. ( I would recommend that if you are going to open the bator to have a wet (clean) sponge or cloth to put in the bator to higher the humidity a bit.)

Thank you! I have actually been playing chicks peeping sounds on a loop for a while. But yours is better I wish I could figure out how to loop it! Kinda nervous. I had 2 moving but my other ones hasnt move in 24 hours that I have seen. And I haven't seen any movement in my other 3. When I locked them down. All 5 were moving when candled. So worried I killed them at the very end!

Have you been running 100F for the whole incubation? What was your humidity? (My very first hatch I had 17 moving developing chicks at lockdown and ended up with 1. Found my problem fixed it and have had all great hatches since.)

I kept a log. It was bt 99 and 100 most days. I had 1 or 2 days spike to 104. But not for long. And maybe 5 days at 102. Humidity averaged around 50. I have a primtive still air..so I am thinking I ran it a little cooll

BUT.... I just came back in the room and my little pipper has made a touch more progress. Now there is a full X with both sides protruding. He also peeped back and me when I talked to him..., fingers crossed..I upped the temp tl 102 and humidity to 70 about an hour ago

Yes, you may see a delay in the hatch if temps were that the whole time as still air should be 101-102F. If you don't get the results that you want, may I suggest on your next try, if you are not in a high elevation, that you consider a low humidity incubation method (if you can see my siggy there's a link in it on this method-if not and you are intersted let me know and I'll paste it for you,) as styro users usually get much better hatches with the low humidity incubation than running up in the 50's%

How is the pipper this morning? Hopefully hatched??

I do have a little pipper! We named him "Wrecking Ball" he made his debut about 4 this morning from what I can tell. I have another that is pipped. I wish I could attach a picture.
