Hi...
I'm Cheri and live in SE Wisconsin. Lived most of my life in Milwaukee, but moved out in 2008. Moved again last year to a house I bought that has 1.1 acres of land. Really, I bought the house because of the yard..for the dogs. I have 3 Chinese Shar-Pei
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got chickens on 4/5/17 as day old chicks

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I wanted 6, but ended up with 9 because I figured I would lose some being a new chicken owner and not having a clue on what to do. I didn't lose any...all are alive and healthy.

(3) What breeds do you have?

2 Barred Rocks, 2 White Leghorns, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Silver Wyondette, 1 Production Red (I think it is a RIR) and 1 ISA Gold

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Internet search on raising chicks

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Used to show dogs in AKC rally, obedience and the breed ring, but I have given that up since buying my house

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I was forced to retire in Dec 2015. Lost DH in Jan 2016 after 40 yrs of marriage. Decided in Feb 2017 that I needed to talk to people instead of dogs, so I got a part time job working at a convenience store. Worked my entire career in IT, this retail stuff is a whole new world to me.

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. Lots of dog folks on here. I bred & showed Cockers from late '60s to 1980.

So sorry that your DH passed. My sister & her DH were 4 days shy of their 50 th.anniversary when her husband passed. It was the day he was supposed to start hospice care and didn't want to.

There are many members around the world, so you can usually find someone to talk to at any hour of the day & night.

Cheri if you put your state name in the searchbox, it will pop up for you, and you can post or lurk on your state thread. Hopefully you will find Bycers in your area to be friends with as well.

From the shelter of an IT cubicle to retail.... THAT is a lifestyle change. Welcome to BYC and congratulations on NOT losing any of your first flock. Have fun in your new life....

Thanks for that info drumstick...that state thread might be really helpful!

Yup...it is culture shock for sure! The worst people to deal with seem to be old men...god, they are cranky
