hello all! My name is Liz and I'm a new momma to 6 layers. 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Black Australorps and 2 Barred Rocks. They are 4 weeks old now (hatched 6/26) and are doing well! I live in Northern VT so I'm hoping my babies live up to their cold hardy reputation! I'm looking forward to learning a lot about these fun new additions to my household.

Hello Liz and welcome to BYC! :frow

I keep both Barred Rocks and Australorps exclusively and I can tell you they do far better in cool temps than heat! Especially the Barred Rocks. On mornings of 5 degrees, snow is flying through the run, the Barred Rocks act as if it's a spring morning! Aussies have more feathers than the average breed and can also tolerate very cold temps. No heat is needed for either of these breeds.

Pull up a roost bar and welcome to our roost! :)
