Hi all :)

So, I'm not only new to the board, I'm pretty new to the whole chicken thing, as well as farm life. I was born & raised in northwest New Jersey, moved to North Carolina for a year, then to South Carolina in 2005 when I was 18. I've been living on my fiance's 75-acre farm since the end of March. He's lived there almost his entire life, and has been around raising various animals for the same amount of time. We decided to get back into raising mostly birds, though we have some other animals around we are building up as well.

For me, it all started with 10 Khaki Campbell ducklings from Tractor Supply. He told me I could get them and keep them out there, before I moved there, and get into bird raising. He used to have thousands, before we ever knew each other, but had sold them (quail, pheasant, ducks, and a few hundred chickens). Then we started on chicks from TSC's chick days, and got a great deal on chicks from another local farm the other weekend. We do have a variety of breeds hanging around, though intend to have coops for the biggest groups (like our red comets, barred rocks, etc). Also have a few silkies and frizzles growing up. Another friend gave us a couple pairs of bantam games last week. Went to a livestock auction they have weekly about 30 miles away and picked up a pair of Cayuga ducks, and have 5 Muscovys wandering around the farm (4 females, 1 male). We've got 2 Australorp hens laying now, and have been saving some eggs for the incubator that's arriving this week to try our hand at incubating our own. We intend to also raise broad-breasted turkeys (in addition to the Narragansett and Royal Palm poults we have!)

In addition to the 100+ birds being raised, there's also 2 Katahdin sheep (dang auction ... the lamb was too cute - & she was on the bottle when we got her ... then a friend had the male we bought a few weeks ago, for a future 'arranged marriage' lol), 3 mini pigs, 1 potbelly, 1 Hogzilla, a pair of growing meat pigs, about 15 rabbits (and 7 new babies that are growing like wildfire), plus our 5 dogs and 1 cat. Only thing missing for me is a couple horses - I've always wanted one. Would like to eventually add cows too, but that would be quite some time into the future.

Looking forward to learning more about chicken raising, as I've definitely become a proud crazy chicken lady :) Also sharing and reading experiences, set ups, etc.
