Hey peeps,
Totally new to this! We cleared out our backyard to move our porch garden into the yard and I wanted to get a couple chickens. We have about a quarter acre to do this. I am up for any suggestions on getting started. I won’t lie and say I know what I’m doing cause frankly I don’t. I am started from the bottom up.

Hi, and welcome to BYC!!! What breed(s) would you be looking at getting?

Okay this is my concern I live in the panhandle of Florida. It gets really hot and humid. I have friends who have had chickens but they've since moved. I believe they had silks and rosey reds. Not sure of spelling. I am up for any assistance. I'd like them to be friendly as I have a grandbaby almost two who I'd like to learn.

Well, I had Rhode Island Reds before, and they weren't very nice. Now, I'm sure that there are nice ones, but mine were mean. I've never had Silkies, so I'm not sure about them. I have heard that they are nice though. I personally like Orpingtons and Australorps, being pretty and sweet.
