Hello everyone,
I'm still pretty new to chickens. Got my week olds in February '09 and tried to follow all the rules. My kids gave me heck because they wanted to hold them all the time. Patience paid off though after 2-3 weeks they were all healthy and the kids got to touch the chicks. They found many a way to amuse themselves like teasing the little cuties with the black end of their glasses and watching them peck at it. Then the chicks got real feathers and my son got hives. Kept chicks, sold son--just kidding, we just make him wash up good after holding the chickens. I've got 3 buff orpingtons and 3 barred rock. They are now 20 weeks and only one is laying. I think the other ones figure she can do all the work. I think I read just about all the information I could handle before getting the chicks and it still wasn't enough, but live and learn. I'm married and have two children, one of each, and a dog who hasn't eaten a chicken yet.
