Hi, I'm Kristi from Northwest Indiana! I just picked up my chicks this morning. This is my first experience. I have been thinking about getting a flock since spring, so we bought a coop and now here we go! I look forward to getting to many of you and reading all of the helpful advice!

Welcome to BYC from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills! :frow

The Learning Center is a great place to start. :)

Wait until you discover your chicks' personalities! That was the most surprising to me when I first started. Chickens have individual personalities!

Enjoy the chicken raising experience. I'll never be without poultry. I started late, at age 56. Sure wish I'd started earlier....

Thanks! I'm excited. My CSA farmer recommending me to this site. I have a few library books I have been reading. I must confess that I didn't think about chickens having personalities, but now that you say it, it makes perfect sense. Other animals do, so it stands to reason that chickens would too.

WELCOME TO BYC!!!!!!! Glad you joined!

Thank you for the warm welcome and helpful links and advice! I look forward to this learning process. I'm interested in all things organic and environmental. I'm a butterfly monitor through the nature conservancy and the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network for the first time this year too. What an adventure :)
