Newbies Chicken Coop

This is my coop that I built for our chickens. We haven't haven't had our chickens but for a few months.

We only have 3 hens and a roo right now. But I have 25 RIR chicks ordered for the last few weeks of february and that will pick up the population a little.

Below are a few pics. I might try and take some more.

I am really proud of the nesting box design. You can gather eggs without ever having to go inside.

They just spend the night in the coop. THey free range during the day until Roo decides it is time for the girls to go to bed and he corrals them into the coop.

Looks great!! What are the dimensions? I love the pic of your chickens. A great big ol' white rooster is so majestic among a group of RIR's.

The hen in the back with more white specks on her is Abbey. We called her Abbey because she does "A"nything "B"ut what Roo wants her to do. She was a sweetie and would sit in our laps and loved to have us rub the back of her head. She was an old girl and finally gave up the ghost. We miss her a lot.

And we have (5) 16" WD X 12" HT nest boxes. I am wishing now that I had made them a little taller.

I am told that those nest will be sufficient for up to 20 hens.

5 should be enough. They will probably decide one of the nests is the most desirable and all try to use that one! And sometimes 2 or even 3 hens will all try to lay in the same nest at the same time! Silly girls!
