We didn't know what we were doing... have done just about everything wrong. I have several eggs set to hatch a day apart, and then we waited and put two batches in on different days, about 5 or 6 in each batch. Soooooo... have about 20 eggs or so, all set to hatch at different times.

What do you think? Will we have any luck?

Oh, and they are Nankins! I hope they hatch. I love my Nankin rooster, he is so sweet and really beautiful.

i have heard of people doing this and there was no problems. im not really sure though, i have a few eggs that were placed in the bator before the rest, mine is my newest have been in the bator for 9 days the older has been in for 14 days. ill see what happens.

Here's a picture of our Nankins. Unfortunately, one of our dogs dug a hole into the coop one evening when we were out and killed one of the hens.

I was so upset. We now keep stuff around the coop so they can't get to them.

Thank you. I think so too.

So I've got my little pile of eggs in the corner that I've quit turning. Two are dated 5/7 and are supposed to hatch tomorrow, but my daughter candled them and said she's pretty sure one is a dud. I've also got one dated 5/8 and one 5/9. So those are in the no-turn pile now as well.

I also added a wet washcloth... couldn't find a clean sponge. I've read it's a good idea to put cheesecloth down so I'm hoping to find some of that tomorrow. Says it makes it easier to clean up the mess.

As I said, we're new at this, so I'm hoping this is going to work out okay. Next time, we'll save up the eggs and put them all in at once. When we first started this whole thing, I didn't know that eggs could sit for awhile before going in the bator.

Oh those chickens are beautiful! What kind of temperments do they have?

If your hatchings are just a day or so off then you might just be ok anyway because they all stop getting turned the last 3 days etc. & so even if you have to wait for other hatchings for a bit you'll have like 2 to 3 days to allow the chicks to dry & others to be hatched. What's that saying about the best laid plans of mice & men? A few weeks ago I had 2 different batches of chicks that went in the bator & I had them in an automatic turner with another inexpensive LG btor waiting for them to be moved to it for the last 3 days that they didn't need turning. It was all set to go but I must have calculated wrong & I just so happened to pass the room the thing is in & I hear peeping while they're still in the bator & in the turner! I let the first literally hatch out there & then moved them all as fast as I could & seriously that was the first hatch I had that was pretty good & these were *shipped eggs*..... I could not believe it! Anyway my point is try not to worry so much just let them do their hatching & allow them to dry off real well in the bator for a day or 2 while you wait for the others to hatch too.

I had my first few hatch almost 2 weeks ago, and the rest of the eggs are due tomorrow. I was a little worried too- because the humidity going up for the first set to hatch. So far I have lots of pips and wobblers, and as of day 19 all of the second set had movement. Staggering the hatch didn't seem to have any adverse effects-yet. And- I'm using an LG without a turner.

I know there are lots of people on here that do it. It was probably reckless of me to try on my first hatch- but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.
Good luck!
