On Sunday one of my hen's eggs hatched. He had a rough start, but he seems fine now.

The only thing I would like to know now, from what age do chicks start pecking and eating solid things.

Mine hasn't really started. What should I do???

You need to teach them to drink by just dipping their little beak in water. Be careful what kind of water container you have as they can drown in it. I put a small lid to a canning jar with marbles and water. That way they can get water between marbles but can't fall face first into water. It's most important to get them drinking. They have had a lot of nourishment inside egg so can go a bit without eating but you do need to get them drinking.

Congrates !!

He will be fine for up to 3 days without food, Maybe he is eating when your not looking or sleeping !! Is he the only chick in the brooder ??

Make sure you are giving him chick starter (small enough for him to eat)

You need to show him how to eat. Make sure you have paper towels on the floor of the brooder, sprinkle the food on the floor, and take your index finger and 'peck' the food. The chick probably needs to be taught what to do.

also, sometimes it helps if you put the dry chick starter in the blender and grind it up really fine for their first few meals.
