In the Brooder
Hi, I'm Owen and from Victoria, Australia. We own a small holding of approx 10 acres, we farm sheep, goats and have around a dozen cross bred chooks which we keep for eggs.
My wife is a celiac, which means wheat and gluten free, so our girls run on a commercial mix that has less than 1% wheat detected, crushed corn, crushed lupines, split beans and peas, plus scraps and what they can scrounge up free ranging.
In my wife's case she gets crook if there is more than 1% wheat in the chickens diet as it comes through in the eggs and meat.
Chickens don't process the gluten in wheat, oats, barley etc like sheep, goats and cattle, which convert the gluten into protein to burn and produce muscle, in chickens they get what they need from the wheat and the gluten is processed through the meat and eggs.

Am always looking for new feed ideas for the girls that will fit my wifes diet.

It's nice to have you Owen!
