Hello from Alabama! Roll Tide!! I've had chickens now for 3 years. I coveted my niece's flock and was given an old chain link dog kennel. After much preparation and a family workday, the kennel was ready for its occupants. She brought me the chickens we chose for me from her recent hatch. I only wanted 4 hens, no roosters, and I didn't want anything to do with raising peeps. Lol. That didn't work out. I started with 7 hens and 1 rooster. He was supposed to be a hen. Oops. Lesson #1. Weeeeellll, I enjoyed them and began a wonderful hands on course in all things chicken. I've hatched MANY chicks and kept or sold them. I got new chickens from other folks eggs. I currently have 2 pens. One is just leghorns for white eggs. My old rooster and 5 hens. My other pen houses a pair of Black Langshans, their full bred daughter, and 2 mixed daughters. There are 2 Marans,3 Bielefelder hens and their rooster, and a Welsummer hen. 11 chickens in that pen. Then also 3 chicks now about 2 1/2 months old running around. Mixes from my previous flock. I wanted to breed langshans and Bielefelders specifically. I'm getting that started. Constantly rebuilding and regrouping. I have 2 incubators running now, and 2 broody hens just started. And I have 10 beautiful black mixed feathered leg chicks that I think are all pullets. I'm a very happy chicken tender.
