Newly hatched chick breathing heavy, 'foamy' mouth

the chick finally got out of the egg about noon today. I went back to work and got home late this evening. The chick still hasn't fluffed and is just laying there breathing heavy. It opens it's mouth wide every couple of seconds and I can see that it has 'foam' or thick saliva in its mouth.

The incubator I moved it to for hatching doesn't have a hygrometer (long story), but both vent holes are open. I didn't have a thermometer inside (to accommodate the hatching chicks), but it may have gotten too hot as well. I don't know and haven't worked with this one long enough to trust it too much.

Any hope for the chick?

What is the temp inside your incubator? Sounds like it's too warm. Maybe I'm wrong but sounds like if you don't get the chick hydrated soon - it won't make it. Is it moving sitting up or just laying down? Can you dip it's beak in water w/Gatorade? Or use a syringe for a drop at a time?

Yep, it's more like it's drowning. It makes a gurgle sound when it opens its beak to breathe...

Sorry
