newly owned chickens

i have recently got two hens i know one is around 18 months old how long will it take before they start to lay?

At 18 months, they should be laying, and should have been laying for approximately 6 months now.

If you just acquired them, It may take a week or 2 for the hen to get used to her new digs. Once they are settled, they should start to to lay. It is not unusual for a newly relocated hen to stop for a period because of the stress of the change.

thats brilliant thanks very much, they have both laid this morning, but one of the eggs was cracked is that normal?

Occasionally you will get one that is cracked, where do they lay? What is down where they lay? Straw? Shavings?

they both laid in the younger hens nesting box its filled with straw.

She might of stood on it, or stood up and it dropped, I put shavings in the bottom of nest then alot of straw on top

They look the same as mine, im not 100% sure but I think there Lohman browns

ok thats great! i tried to figure it out my self but there were so many pics of different breeds that all looked the same to me so i didnt have a clue ha!
