Hi all--
I'm new at all this, and want to write a story about efforts happening across the country to change laws banning backyard chickens.
Would love to hear recommendations on people/places I should check out, whether you've had success (or not) or even whether you are in the thick of this right now.
Feel free to respond here, or send me a note at
[email protected]

Thanks a lot,
Anne Marie.

I emailed you an article that I had found last winter that was helpful in my research, I hope it helps in yours too!

I'd love to know how to change these ridiculous laws. I live in an agricultural area-all farms-but within the village itself we're not allowed any 'livestock' animal. My backyard opens onto what was a horse pasture when my husband was a child. All I want is a few chickens for eggs. People are so out of touch with life. Any suggestions are welcome.

I
sent an email to our Director of Planning and Urban Development and he's open to the idea or changing the ordinance, I provided him with a list of ordinances from around the country that allow back yard chickens. He wanted a week to research and contact folks in other cities and we'll write up a proposed ordinance change and bring it before the Zoning Commission and then the City Council. The whole process should be 45-60 days unless we stir up controversy.

Send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward my 30 minutes of online research your way. Ordinances include bees and chickens both.
