I looked for a bit and didn't see a thread for NH reds, however there are over 800 pages and I was not going through all them lol

This is my Sally. (she used to have Jack who was actually a girl lol) but something got her when they were younger :( she is 2 1/2

Since sally I have got a few more chickens, white crested polish, Bantam Cochin, cuckoo maran.

She's a great layer, comes when I call, always says hi when she hears or sees me, if she hears me coming out the door she comes running, hears me pull up in my car she comes running.

She never roosts on a bar, I find that odd for a chicken, she actually used to love sitting on my bike or even if she got in the garage she would jump way the heck up and sit on the beams
Not anymore though.
She is very mellow.

not one to explore everything on my body like my other chickens do, my shoes, hair, rings, etc, climb on me, peck at me to check things out.

Is that the way most NH reds are? I don't have another to compare to her.

today she finally got to be in the same pen as my ducks and chickens (around 4 months old) and she was happy as can be, I could tell she was getting lonely as her partner Luna has gone broody and isn't much of a playmate these days.

Let's see your NH red !!!

I have no clue as how they should be. I was gifted 1 roo and 2 hens. The roo is beautiful but mean as a snake. The hens are skittish, but one will come to me to take shrimp tails from my hand.

oo what a handsome guy you have there, I had a cochin rooster he turned into a jerk when he hit puberty, and my girls rarely came to me anymore because of him. I had to get rid of him I was tired of kung fu fighting him everyday, lucky he was a small rooster don't know what I would do with one that size

once I got rid of him my ladies started to be my babies again.

If I really get i to this chicken thing, I will have a free range only flock and he will be my roo. I know some roos won't do much, but this fellow will probably fight to the death...at least against humans.

I like challenges...

It's good the say to have a Roo with a free range flock they are the protectors, My neighbors each have roos in their flocks, and they are super nice.. I am like why is mine a jerk.

however i was told he got too used to me, from the day I brought him home the first 2 months he and my female was in my home office with me, then I seen them every day, they would sit with me outside.. Puberty hit and he thought I was submissive and one of his ladies..
I think not mr Roo lol

I am going to make him a roo pen just forvhim. See if it calms him down. The guy who gave him to me had him and another NHR roo in the same small cage. He was calm as could be. Held him like a cat and stroked his feathers. Now he is with girls he thinks he is barney bad azz....
