I got maybe two eggs from Dark Cornish hens that were crossed with a New Hampshire Red cock. The chicks will be mixed in the incubator with a bunch of pure New Hampshire Red chicks. Will I be able to tell them apart?

Is the dark feathering of the Dark Cornish dominant? I'm hoping so. Will I be able to tell at hatch or will I have to wait? Anyone know the percentage chance that the chicks will be dark or chipmunk striped? Dark Cornish chicks are yellow with dots on the back or chipmunk stripes (or at least the ones I got last year were).

The eggs in the incubator this year were smaller, so I'm assuming they're Dark Cornish. Couldn't tell. So now wondering if I can tell by any other means.

Every time? Every bird will be chipmunk? If so, drats. The two that hatched are both yellow as can be. One has an almost imperceptible spot of a little darker down on its head and intermittently down its back, but it might just be very dark yellow.

I really wanted to see how that cross grew and tasted. Not planning any other hatches.

Oh, yeah, pea comb is dominant. Or close to it. Thanks. I can't think straight. Slept 3 hours separately overnight during hatch trying to keep all variety/breeds separate; mind is boggled. Am using whole pea comb dominance trait w/ some other birds to try to get away from straight combs b/c we live in the cold.

I had thought to give my extras away tomorrow and might be giving away one of the Dark Cornish x NHR since I can't tell them apart. Oh, well. Not the end of the world.
