Would a Bantam Black Cochin be nice (like a pet) and protect the flock?

Not too sure about the bantams as I hear that they all think they are super-roos, but we have a ginormous blue Standard Cochin & he's awesome with our small flock. My 5 year old girl carries him all over & plays with his big red wattles...lol He's also very gentlemanly w/ the ladies & never leaves marks on them like some more aggressive guys do. I personally believe it's mostly in the upbringing. We handled each bird a lot & every day too. Of course, each bird does have its own personality, so it's not a 100% bet, but cochin, buff orp, jersy giants, brahmas, etc. Seems like the big jumbo birds are the gentlest for some reason. Here's another thread w/ someone else asking same thing. Esp. read what Sugar Sand Farm says about her Cochin daddy. That was the best "mistake" I ever made, buying that cochin "pullet" that the chicken fairy changed into a rooster!
