Hey! Long-time lurker here lol. I begged for chickens as a kid but predators found them eventually! After having my son and very very close to having my daughter, we moved to a house with enough land for chooks and the rest is history! My goal has always been the rainbow egg basket, so I usually have a few different breeds. I love buff Orpingtons especially through. This year is the first year we hatched eggs, and now our total is up to 25 chickens! And it’s given me a taste for hatching and now I’m neck deep in researching chicken breeding and hatching eggs haha. I’m not sure how my husband will feel about my not-so-low-key micro hatchery ambitions, but all things in time!
I love the way chickens run when you come out with feed or treats, I love the way the rooster talks to his hens and gives them the best bits, I love their variety and I LOVE their egg color ♥ especially that healthy dark yolk!
Outside of birbs I’m a fantasy author, love growing veggies and flowers, and homeschool my babes. They are 8 and 5, we’ve got a golden retriever and a German shepherd puppy that’s huge at 6mo. I work as a care aid part time, and edit fiction books part time! I love what I do, including chicken tending. I’ve lurked on BYC for about 5 years, and even rescued a stuck chick with the help of one of the posted threads last month. I basically read the questions and answers for fun
definitely the best resource I know! You might find me here at some point, brainstorming the best roosters to put over my current flock (and maybe what to add) to hatch Easter eggers—I have an addiction! But I know you guys understand
