Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
Hi there - this is THE BEST place for chicken information! I could never have been so prepared for my first-time farmer excursion if not for BYC. I have 5 2-week old chicks that have transformed my bathroom and my daily routine. 3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 EEs. I expected them to be fun, entertaining and even nice, but I got lucky and have one that seems incredibly friendly. The smallest of the bunch, a buff named Hoppy, seeks out my hand, hops on and sits there no matter what I'm doing. She will happily hunker down and sit on my hand while I'm sweeping up old shavings and moving things around. I like to think that its because she's super nice and not just because she figured out my hand is warm.
