Nigerian Dwarf WILL NOT GET PREGNANT

Oh wow. I was looking at all my old threads and came upon this one. Boy, do I have an update for ya'll.........................So, after 2 tries of breeding in the Fall of 2019, Lyla kept coming back in to strong heat (even after a hormone shot). So I sold her to a sweet older couple looking for a companion for their older Saanen doe who had just lost her only herdmate. I was sad to see Lyla go and thought I would never see her again. I decided to buy my dream goat, a pretty Mini Alpine yearling I found on Craigslist to replace Lyla. I named her Ponderosa, or Rosa for short. Ponderosa was one month pregnant when I acquired her. Fast forward to early May, we get a text from the older couple (Lyla's new owners) saying her udder was seeming a little large. I told them it was probably just percocious udder which she had had previously. The next morning, we get an urgent call and two text messages saying Lyla had kidded during the night and now had a kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The couple did not know what to do, what gender the kid was, and did not have the proper setup or fencing for a kid, so we rushed out to their barn. Apparently Lyla had kidded in the barn (the kid was covered in hay) then for some reason had taken the kid out into the field for the remainder of the night and was guarding her fiercely before heading back to the barn for her morning meal of hay. Now, keep in mind Lyla is a first time mom, an older goat, was not being fed like she was pregnant (no grain or alfalfa) etc., and that she was able to protect her newborn kid AND the kid followed her out into the field and back being only hours old. Quite the miracle if you ask me. So anyways, we get there not knowing what to expect. (This is right during the worst of COVID so we aren't even sure the older couple will let us close). I run into the barn hardly able to contain myself and find Lyla standing there (I hadn't seen her in so long, it was amazing just to see her) and beside her, a TINY (like 1 or 2 lbs) little kid. A little doeling with bright blue eyes just like her momma. She was jet black with little white and tan socks on each ankle, a big white spot on her forehead and white speckled ears. I picked her up and my heart literally melted :love Lyla was such an attentive and sweet mom!! Then, the couple decided I should take them back bc they were in no way prepared. So the older couple ended up buying one of Lyla's relatives to replace her, and I paid them for Lyla and took her and Luna (the kid's name) home :weeTwo weeks later my Alpine kidded and had twins! A girl and a boy. Sadly, 5 days later the girl died of unknown causes and Luna was my little therapy goat. Luna is now living the life at my neighbor's house and Lyla is back home :) Luna is just like her mom, sassy, independent, and with a big heart. So there ya go! Best update ever

Years ago my mother raised purebred collies. She had some very fine dogs. One was a lovely female named Bonnie. Although a number of people had expressed interest in buying one of Bonnie's puppies, Bonnie never got pregnant. At least as far as my mother knew anyway. My mother sold her to a businessman in town. A few weeks later Bonnie presented her new owner with a nice litter of puppies. The man was delighted. My mother not so much.
