While not a Nikon Gal, you will love digital!

No more worrying about if you brought enough film, if the cooler is heating up, in your film is too cold from the cooler, are you chems the right temps.....


If you are used to "thinking" for your camera, you might want to make sure the digital has controls in similar locations as your film cameras

If you have older Nikon lenses, you might want to see if they are compatible with the D5000

It isnt one I would recommend. Used D300's and even the new D7000 are far better choices. In the end however, it really depends on what you are planning to shoot. General photography can be accomplished at a very acceptable level with most any entry level dslr.
