Nipple waterer and cross beak

Will a chick with mild cross beak have a problem using poultry nipples? I have one chick with a very mild case of cross beak, she is 6 weeks old and I just put in a nipple waterer and noticed that she pecks at the wet pine chips under the water tub. IS it that she is just pecking or cant she use it? Here is a pic of her and the about of cross beak that she has…...
