Hi Folks,

Someone just lay it on me. Which brand should I buy, which brands should I steer away from.

I give up on the water dish. I want a nipple!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from nipple waters. They make a big mess and leak, from my experience.
I use water cups now and i love them.

I just barely installed my nipple waterers today, but I got them from http://cconly.com/.

They haven't leaked yet, but it's only hours old. Installation was as easy as promised.

As I understand, the bad brands are messy and the good ones are life savers.

I looked at the cups. Thanks for that, I had never seen those before. But my immediate reaction is to wonder how it's different from any other bowl type watering system. Won't they just kick muck into the cup making it as messy (but smaller) then what I already have.

FYI, I solved the solution of chickens standing in the bowl and pooping in it. I located the bowl under the nest box so they cannot get into it. There is a physical block. However, they kick their stuff into it and there it rots. Every day it gets stinky by the end of the day. How is a cup different?

The cups are the way to go. They do not get as much dirt in them do to their location on the side and their small size. Plus they are easy to clean and do not get the nasty growth you get with the other waterers since they are on a closed system.

I have used nipples for my hens from when they were 4 weeks old and love em. No leaks if installed correctly and your chickens will use them. Dont fool yourself and think they won't go to a nasty muddle puddle before any other water source. From the forums I have seen on some websites I hear they need to solve the clogging issues and the quality isn't that great with the cup waterers. I was actually going to put both on my system and see which was better but I just went with the nipples so I have no personal experience with the cups.

Will you perhaps post a picture of the "water cups"? I'm really interested to know about it. Sorry, I'm a newbie here so I don't know what a "water cup" look like for chickens!

Thanks much!

If it is yellow in color and not made by VAL do not buy it.

If you can take it apart do not buy it unless it is a VAL.

A nipple drinker only requires a drip cup if it improperly managed or poorly designed.

If a good nipple drinker is properly installed and managed there should be no dripping or very little if your circumstances do not allow all parameters to be adequately met.

Rankings-
1) Lubing from Germany - hard for a non industrial grow to obtain. Very well designed, well manufactured and tolerant of difficult situations.
2) VAL from USA - not typical for what a small grower would expect. Like Lubing well designed, well manufactured and tolerant of difficult situations.
3) Ziggity from USA - Well designed, well manufactured but not tolerant of difficult situations. Require very high water quality. They do not want their products sold to non industrial users.
4) Impex products from Holland - most popular for backyard users. Come in threaded and push-in. Tolerant. Three piece all SS not a good choice. Hard to go wrong with these since they are also easy to obtain.
5) Plasson from Israel - confusing, hard to obtain in NA. Not a bad product but pretty Euro Metric.
6) Chore-Time from USA - nothing in their product line that is very suitable for small scale, not bad if you have 60 X 600' broiler houses.
99) Anything from China on E Bay, especially the three piece junkers.
