I have 2 one yr old silikies that I got for the simple reason that they are to be such great mammas, but have never had either of them be broody or even seem to be interested for that matter. They were fighting with each other last week.. I was concerned so I asked about it & was told possibly one was getting ready to but nothing & now they're back to their normal self..

Am I doing something wrong?? I also have a 3yr old New Hampshire Red a brown leg horn & 3 white amber-link.. all 3 yrs old none ever to go broody.. do I just have horrible luck or what?

We added 15 new chicks to our flock this year 3 ee pullets 6 white leg horn pullets & 6 buffs that I ended up with 5 roos & 1 pullet (so it seems anyway) they are all 10 weeks old.

Not that we NEED chicks but would love for the kids to experience it.. any suggestions or tips??

Have patience. No, you're not doing anything wrong. Silkies do indeed tend to be broody, but that doesn't mean every one of them will be. And, they might become broody in the future. It''s all a matter of what hormones they came with. You may get a broody out of the EE's or Buffs, too. One of my EE's is a persistent broody.

Have you tried keeping a nest full of golf balls or ceramic eggs? Sometimes when they see that nest full of "eggs" it switches on a switch somewhere that maybe they should try hatching them.
