I'm trying to find a new home for my 2 1/2 month old cockerel (I live in the Buda/Kyle TX area) but am afraid he'll start crowing before I re-home him. He's very nice but I can't keep a rooster in my area. I got the no crow collar for one of my hens (weird, I know) but was wondering if anyone's tried the collar on a young cockerel? I assume it depends on the size you order and it needs re-adjusting because the chicken will grow.

Have you tried posting him in the "free re-homing" section on the buy-sell-trade forum? It can be tough to find a new home for a rooster, it seems there are always so many of them around. You might try posting on your state thread too and see if anyone around you is interested.

I've done all that. I'm messages relatives too. No luck so far.

Birds have died from those collars.
From what I've seen, there's those who haven't seen or have seen improvement. I haven't seen many say their birds have died. I think the biggest thing people have warned about is their bottom beak getting caught, which happened with my hen (she's perfectly fine and still screams her heart out).

Some folks list them on Craigslist.
I thought about that. I'm just hesitant about someone using him as cockfighting bait or something. I would have to be very selective of who I go with.

I understand, went through a similar thing myself. Not a fun place to be in. :hugs
Yeah, especially if he's a good boy. He's docile and doesn't mind being picked up at all. I don't want to get in trouble with our neighborhood. I've thought of caponization. I'd have to check with our vet who's looked at our chickens before. But, he might be too old.
