no eggs

my understanding is that hot and cold have nothing to do with egg production; rather the length of the sunlight in the day may have more to do with it. That said, this is my first year with chickens and some of my girls started laying over the extremely cold winter we had this year. Not everybody was laying, but a couple started during the cold, and egg production has only picked up in the last two months.
You are correct that egg laying is dictated by the hours of light a chicken receives during the day. But - a sudden hot spell or cold snap with drastic temperature swings can cause a setback in laying.
