No eggs

A flock of 10 birds that are only giving one egg a day! 2 birds 10 months old! 2 birds a year and 10 months! Only one is older than 5. Give good egg laying crumbles & once a week some calcium! Any ideas or comments?

Hi, are your birds molting? I don't know where you live, but it's not unusual for chickens to stop laying during winter. Mine didn't stop on their first winter, but this is their second and the only hens laying now are 2 pullets who were born in april...

There could be a few reasons, as said, they could be molting, or maybe they took their winter break. They also could be hiding them or if there's anything new in the area or a predator that's bugging then they won't lay.

Live in mass and none are molting! The family I took them from only had 2 eggs a day also! Just wish I could do something to change this! Was so used to having several dozen a week from my birds!

Need to get new layer chicks every year to have eggs year round...
....and even then it's a crap shoot if you get eggs all winter, even with supplemental lighting.

Like @Blooie used to say...they are not Pez dispensers!
