We could argue why we need fences till we are all purple

But what iam thinking is not having a fence at all.

So what i have right now is about 30feet square run with 4 ducks and 2 chickens, All the grass is long dead, there are holes dug in it, its muddy or icey constantly.

When i go out everyday to add water and food, let them out or lock them in. They all run together hit the side of the fence and stay there till i leave.

Only the chickens and 1 duck i raised from a few days old, 3 ducks i got full grown from big flocks, There fear of humans seam to have worn off on the others

Long storey short i think theyd be alot of comfy without a fence.

My backyard is a quarter acre and one of my neighbors yards is attatched. as in the grass goes from my place to his.

Main questions are, will they stay on my side, will they stay on the property? Will they still go to bed everynight by themselfs?

Who knows! some people's ducks won't go into their pen at night but mine go in all by themselves when it gets dark. Last fall my grandson was here and terrorized my ducks so much that they headed for the woods in the 23 acre vacant lot next to us. My husband and I chased them so deep into those woods I was sure I'd never see them again but at dusk there they were all in a row running toward their pen.

I'm just so paranoid about predators and I know you've got them in Nova Scotia. Actually they're everywhere so it's a crap shoot.

With no fence they will wander. Ducks are less likely to come home to roost than chickens.

No fence means buffet to passing predators too.

Then there is being a good neighbor and keeping your pets off their porch.
It's hard to have good relations with your neighbor if your chickens/ducks are eating and messing up their landscaping.
Not to mention duck poo on their yard, deck, porch etc.
