I am 68 and I am being told I am too old to start and raise chickens. That makes me more determined. I had a flock going in August 2021, but was in a serious car accident on Sept 1. Nursing home for 4 months, so the chickens were acquired by a friend, So now, I am starting over. Meanwhile, with limited mobility, I have enlarged the pen and am starting on the coop.

If your coop design has your current and future mobility in mind, do what makes you happy! Perhaps having a raised coop would be best for you, so you don't need to stoop to clean it out?

Welcome! Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Your chickens will be excellent therapy for you in your recovery. I am a 69 yo woman and love my chickens. My DH (Dear Husband) helps when I need him to. We're so happy you joined!
