Thank you!!They probably molted and then rolled into the short days of fall/winter. As the days get longer they will start to lay again. This is assuming you are in the northern hemisphere.
Any eggs yet. Im going on 6 months with no eggs on my 2 year olds. Many around me as well who used dumor feed have had no eggs at all from entire flocksI have 6 who have not laid since at least Thanksgiving. Never ever had the entire flock stop laying for so long (this is by far the strangest group of hens Ive ever had).
2 started molting around Thanksgiving and every few weeks, another 2 started. The first two are finally done, and the others are near the end.
I figured this was the issue, but I guess we shall see as the days get longer. I can tell they have been in the nesting boxes.
I finally had to buy a dozen eggs... OMG Not again!! they are ridiculously expensive.
What breeds? It's normal for birds to go from their molt in late summer to their winter break.Any eggs yet. Im going on 6 months with no eggs on my 2 year olds. Many around me as well who used dumor feed have had no eggs at all from entire flocks
I've got Easter Eggers, buff orpingtons, americaunas, lavendar orlington, Blue andulusian, spotted Sussex, bard rocks, and a olive egger. They are all free range and get compost and meal worms as treats. I was feeding dumor 16% and p pride Scratch. I switched to a local feed mill yesterday as tons of people all over have not got eggs in months from using those brands. My neighbor never used these brands and gets a dozen a day. So now they get 8 grain scratch, non gmo pellets and black oil sunflower. I've had chickens since I was a kid and never have seen them completely stop for so long. It's bizarre to meWhat breeds? Does their feed have enough protein?
Any stressors? Barking dogs, lights, loud noises, predators, tight quarters, etc?
Switch to a high protein feed and cut out the scratch and seeds, it causes organ failure. it's been a very over cast winter everywhere and light affects laying.I've got Easter Eggers, buff orpingtons, americaunas, lavendar orlington, Blue andulusian, spotted Sussex, bard rocks, and a olive egger. Can I ask how much feed you throw yours each day? I have ten that are laying age. They eat whatever they want out side as well as the feed which I don't feed but once a daySwitch to a high protein feed and cut out the scratch and seeds, it causes organ failure. it's been a very over cast winter everywhere and light affects laying.
Make sure your new feed has at least 17% protein or it's not enough for dual purpose layers. Also try supplemental lighting.
