I'm sure I'm not the first one to come up with this, but I thought I would share my trick.
I've got several of the metal double wall fount waterers. For the pastured broilers sometimes I end up carrying the thing for quite a ways.
Mine are getting older and they don't seal as well as they did, and re-bending the tab only works so well. I end up sloshing out a bunch of water that flows down into the trough when carrying it from the pump to the chickens.
So, I've taken to sticking a clothes pin in between the wall and the tab. The spring keeps it tight so it doesn't leak as bad, and since it's a clothes pin, it clips on nicely to the hex netting so I know where to find it tomorrow.
Hope this helps someone else!
