No pics (sorry) but could 3 of my barred rocks be roos? Now with photobucket link!

I can only access the site mobily so i can't post pics. However 3 out the 16 of my barred rocks are lighter in color and were the first to develop combs. In the last couple of days the combs have started to turn red as well. They are around a month old.

How big are the wattles and combs? Have they crowed at all? If their combs and wattles are redder than the others and bigger, the are most likely boys.

One when startled made a sad little half crow day before yesterday. Their waddles haven't started but their combs are probably half an inch and red. The other ones haven't even developed yet.

 

[Fred's Hens]

At four to five weeks, Barred Rocks display their sex in an obvious way. The cockerels are bright, wider white bars, perky red combs and red junior wattle sets are forming. The pullets are dark, spotty looking, with dull yellow combs and no wattles. Side by side, they are night and day. I post this photo of mine, often, hope folks don't get tired of seeing it, but it shows the obvious difference.

That would be a cockrel. Notice how its lighter in color than the others around it. Soon it will look like Fred's Hens pic.

Thanks everyone! I thought so, but it has been a long time since I have dealt with chicks. Well over 20 years! I researched traits that others pullets had aslittle puff balls, and used that to judge which to purchase out of the straight run brooder. I did purposefully take 3 that I thought to be cockrels. Hope they don't all turn out to be boys!
