No poultry vet - poult sneezing. Would you keep separate?

Hi BYC.

I have two poults that I separated from the rest of the flock about a week ago since they seemed to need a little extra TLC. Both are doing well, eating/drinking and energetic, but I noticed one of the birds started sneezing and had a runny nose a couple days ago. The next day, the second poult started sneezing as well. I'm applying VetRX to their head/under wings for now.

I'd like to try to re-integrate the two birds with the rest of the flock, but I've read that turkeys can be lifelong carriers for respiratory diseases.

I am not having any luck finding a vet who treats turkeys and can do testing to help me determine if these birds are infectious or not.

Any suggestions on what to do? I'd really like to move these two outdoors as soon as possible - I think they'll be much happier there than in their indoor kiddie pool brooder - but it'll mean building a second enclosure if I can't put them with the other birds. Seeing as I just finished building the first enclosure, I really don't want to start a second one just yet.

If I do re-integrate them, any tips on doing so?

I’m not an expert but will do my best to help. It is generally recommended to keep the symptomatic birds separate, treat them. I am not sure how long they should remain in quarantine but a couple of weeks is not unreasonable or until you are very sure they are healthy again and no others in the main flock are ill.

The other group actually started showing the same symptoms a few days later, but I have kept them separate for now. Thank you!
