No Rooster- hen Broody?

Probably a completely naive question, but will a hen go broody even if there isnt a rooster in the flock?

Yep, sure will. Happened to me and lots of others on BYC. Just a hormonal thing not related to the Man of the House.

What can I do to get this girl out of the nest box?

Put on gloves and haul her fluffy butt out of there. A cage where she can't get cozy, where air can flow underneath her might work, just taking her off the nest 20 times a day might work, nothing might work, LOL. Some are very determined.

I've never dealt with this myself, but if you want chicks right now is a great time to get some eggs under her.

Is that your Chicken coop with the white wooden shakes on it with the windows around the top? very curious..

This thread is two years old so I doubt she's broody now.
