In the Brooder
Looking for a flock to join, meet our 2 good-natured, adorable cockerels. Date of hatch April 19, 2020 (12 weeks).
We hatched these two cuties from a friend who has a mixed flock and hand raised them. Her rooster is a black silkie and the hen was either a smooth white cochin or possibly the F1 cross of the silkie/cochin pair (happy to share more details!). So these little guys are silchins or cochilkies, but not frizzles since the mother didn't carry the frizzle feather gene. There feathers are smooth and soft.
We can't keep roosters in our area, so trying to find them happy homes. I'd prefer them to go as a pair, but open to those interested in just one. I live in Northern Virginia, but am willing to drive a few hours to see them placed in a good home. So if you live in Maryland, West Virginia, or Southern Pennsylvania, feel free to message me!
The lighter gray (blue splash?) is named Peppermint and we thought 'he' was a 'she' until the squawking/crowing sounds started each morning! (We may still be wrong with this one -- could possibly be a loud pullet!) Peppermint is the most social chicken we've had and is always interested in attention and handling from people, including kids. His feathered feet are amazing...giving him the look of a Clydesdale horse! Overall, he is a curious, well-mannered cockerel who is a lot of fun to have around in the garden. He does make sure that the other flock members respect his input, though!
The dark gray/black roo is named R2Peep2 and he is a calm, friendly guy. Very easy to handle and enjoys being held by adults and kids. He is the more dominant of the 2 roosters, but hasn't started crowing yet. He has started getting some maroon coloring on his shoulders, but is otherwise black and gray. He takes good care over the rest of the flock and watches out for any predators or threats.
Thanks for your interest!
