No water ducks?!?!

I have like an old 15" cake pan that I keep water in. It's only about 1/2" deep. I've seen them get in it but only to chase bugs.

Hi!

Do you sit with them when you put them in the water?
My duck loved to swim when he was a baby, but as soon as walked away he would get out.

Love,
Sam

Yes. I sit with them. Actually even allow them to sit on my hands while I put them in the water. As soon as I would start to move my hands out from under them it's like they would panic.

When I got them from the farmer they were all cooped up in an old horse trailer. About 50 chicks. Had been in there 6 weeks. I didn't see any water other than in the drinkers.
They were so unhealthy & caked in poo. I gave them a warm bath the 1st day I got them. They hated it.

Mine love snap pea ends, like the part you don't eat. They also love cantaloupe and watermelon and strawberries. And tomatoes, even though tomatoes are bad for fowl. They are all the strawberries and tomatoes off our plants. Oh! And Cheerios. All my animals LOVE Cheerios. The horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, lamb, yeaaah.

I've actually had trouble with them eating too, that is in another thread. I've tried everything. All they eat is worms & bugs.
Yes I have tried putting some worms in the water. They will stand on the edge & retrieve them. If they can't reach them they will just nip at my fingers for another.

Ahh that's so sad :(
I think it will be okay if you are just really patient.
I think every duck wants to swim sooner or later, and if they don't, try to look on the bright side, less cleaning :D
No but seriously I think they will be fine, you sound really sweet :)

I started mine in just an inch or two of water and increased over a few weeks as they grew. I was sure that they could stand up in water until they were about 6 weeks old. I would offer, but not force. They wll probably come around with time and no pressure. You could try a paint tray that they could walk in and out of by themselves.
