I'm a brand new chicken owner. I have three "Miller Browns", dubbed the Golden Girls. One of them makes a real racket when she's laying in the early morning. Is there anything I can do about it? My hens are illegal, so I am very worried about bothering my neighbors.

Welcome to BYC!

My chickens all sing when they lay. It's nice in the winter (I have a monitor in the coop) as I know when to go out and get eggs before they freeze. If you're worried about neighbors and noise, make sure your coop is secure and soundproof.

Nope, it's a natural things some hens do.
I have 29 hens and I have two a RIR and a Egyptian that are EXTREMELY PROUD when they lay and let the whole state know it. The rest of my flock generally don't spread the news.

Make good friends with the neighbors and give them eggs.

Or get rid of the noisy hen.

Since your hens are allowed, the options are really limited.

Same way you'd soundproof (dampen) any other room, such as the garage of a household with a teenage rock band.
