I have a RIR hen, about 2 yrs old, who seems to have a balance problem. She falls over, rolls on her back, and then can't get up (like a turtle). Sometimes she mis-judges a jump down from something, or is tackled by the rooster. It's been going on for a couple of months, and I have to set her back on her feet at least once a day. The other hens pick on her when she's down, so I have her isolated now.
At first I thought it was some awful illness, and separated her and gave her special food, vitamins, etc. She hasn't changed and it's been quite awhile now. Has anybody ever encountered something like this? I had her for about a year before this started. Other than occasionally falling over, she has no other symptoms: eats, drinks, normal poops, lays the occasional egg.
She has become very "clingy", and comes when I call and hunkers down for petting. Very submissive.
