I'm new to chickens starting this year. Wife wants turkey's. I don't want mailed pullets or eggs so was wondering if anyone around western ny south of buffalo sold pullets or hatching eggs. i'm currently looking to make an incubator by next weeknd so wouldn't mind some turkey eggs. Wife wants a bird big enough to feed like 20 people for thanks giving. we normaly do like 2 birds a 12 and 16ish lbs bird I think. so wouldn't mind some dressing out around there or little more.

thanks

Sorry don't know anyone in your neck of the woods.
If you want the Turkeys for eating only the Brod breasted or double breasted are what you want fast growing and big 30 to 50 pounds but you better keep the feed on and if you have never had Turkeys before be warned you can get attached to them if you raise them from Poults they will follow you around the yard like a Dog.
Always get more than you think you want or need Poults are fragile till they get some size on them and then theres sickness and predators.

The thing with the Double Breasted Turkeys for the most part they cannot reproduce on there own and they get so big they will die because of there eating and there large size there bones and heart cant hold out.
If you want Birds that can reproduce get a Heritage breed Red Bourbon or Holland white or a Bronze all good eating birds that reproduce but take longer to mature as much as a year and will live to around 7 years or so you could get a mix of breeds and get the best part of both worlds.
There is a learning curve with turkeys after having chickens.
There is a good market for Poults Baby Turkeys of any breed.
You have found a great place for Turkey Information great people her I have learned a lot.

Thanks for the information. I have learned a lot about chickens on here figured would be a good spot for turkey's also since I couldn't find a site like this for turkeys.
