No need to worry, as long as your chicken is acting normal. sometimes smaller eggs are laid due to stress, sudden cold weather, or change i routine. but this does not mean that your chicken is unhealthy. These smaller eggs are sometimes called fart eggs, and are a natural occurrence in healthy chickens!

Absolutely, far colder than any of us wanted, they left the roost later and stayed off even for 3 days below freezing
this might be the leading cause then, changes deeply affect chickens. this doesn’t mean their unhealthy, but there body is trying to acclimate to the change. are you using a heat lamp? what do you have for warmth?

We are in south la. I had heat lamps hung on the back porch for the barn cats but mine no longer roost in the coop, they roost on a 5 ft shelf on my back porch ( 16 ft overhang coop is under there as well, nesting boxes on one area, cat food pans ,beds, birds feed and water.. it was 80 the day before 3 days not above freezing wind chills in single digits, another 2 cold days and we will see 75 degree weather this week ..they free range in all weather even when is was sleeping the left to go forage

okay, sounds good. i’d say, keep them in shelter with lots of straw during the cold. if needed, put down red pepper flakes in with the food during the freezing temperatures. chickens cannot taste spice, but it warms their bodies. all these changes in temperature definitely causes the change in sizes of eggs. again, don’t worry, just keep those chickens comfy and warm during the cold.
