We have a 5-acre homestead in Columbia County. We moved up here from Bradenton after retiring 2 years ago. Lots to learn. We have built our chicken tractor which has turned into something like a chicken Taj Mahal 😀. Now we are researching breeds for laying that will do well in a place that gets crazy hot in summer and sometimes freezing in winter. Our friend has isa browns that are so cute and friendly.

Hay im in Florida too. Don’t do Wyandottes or Cochins. Breeds like barred rocks, isa browns, road islands, and other light waight breeds do great down here. If you want a heavier feathered birds like bramas or Cochins get them from a breeder in Florida. They birds will have natural adaptations to help in the heat. Like my Cochins drop all these under fluff and look like twigs in the summer.
