I have a flock of 6 pullets, not sure what type, I'm thinking leghorns. I live in northeast ohio, and my pullets live outside in an A-frame coop that I built (I will attach a picture). I am always worried that a predator will get them at night or when they are free ranging during the day. We have foxes, coyotes, raccoons, possums, and hawks. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on keeping them safe? Thank you!

Cute coop, but to withstand attacks by the predators you have it won't stand a chance. They'll dig right down and under your bottom framing, not to mention you used plain chicken wire...they'll tear through that like it was butter. Sorry, but you'll have to beef up your setup.

We have a door that slides closed during the night to keep them inside, the bottom of their coop is 1/2 inch hardware cloth. The coop is temporary for now, we are planning to build one off the side of the house for winters. Can coyotes, foxes, or raccoons get them through the door or the thick wire underneath? And are they a threat during the day?

Well, I wouldn't think they could get through the door, but I've heard of raccoons that can open slider latches fairly easily...they're smart little scumbags. As far as being a threat during the day.....if they're hungry enough, yes.

Is your hardware cloth attached with screws and washers about every 8"?
Is there hardware cloth under those pvc panels on the coop portion?
Does the pop door have a double action latch...heavy spring loaded hook and eye or carabineer thru a hasp hole?

Raccoon are wicked strong and have those creepy little hands, opposable thumbs and clever brains.

Chicken wire will keep chickens in and most other birds out during the day...but won't stop a hungry fox or other canine if it has time.
