Northern mites

I took my Roo to the vet (he raises chickens himself) and he told me that mites occur in nature and that you'll always have them at one or another.

He sold me a bottle of Frontline spray (like the stuff you use for fleas and ticks on you dog or cat) and told me to spray every chicken behind the comb, under each wing, and above the rump. The natural oils in their skin will help the Frontline to coat the whole body. Even if they are still in the coop they will not be able to stay on the chickens. I have to do this once every three months. You can continue to eat the eggs, too.

It's alot easier than dusting everything and everyone!

Bridget399, thank you for that advice. I am going to see my veterinarian next week! These mites are the most aggressive ones I've ever seen. And their favorite hangout is on the top of the tail where the little oil gland thingie is. That treatment is sorta like treating with Ivomectin, just alittle dab will do ya. But I have a good vet and he will help me.

In the meantime, I am just using "all of the above" to hold them at bay. Yesterday I dusted the ground. Tomorrow I will spray them etc etc.
