I am very excited to be joinging BYC. I have been playing around and figuering things out. I also had a member take me under her wings and has been a great help!! Thank you!
I am tammy, wife and mother of 3.
We have chickens and ducks and are looking to buy more. The winter brought us an owl - he thought he needed to take up a new dining area in my coop. Finally rid of him and ready to get my flock back up. I love advice and suggestions. I cant wait to meet more of you!

I am also on facebook, pinterest and twitter, finding more and more connections in many places. Next i am looking at craigslist - who would have thought to look there - not me - but i am thanks to advice given earlier today!

most of us here are eager to help. if we don't know the answer we will try to direct you to someone who does.

just remember, chickens are addictive. hatching them maybe even more so. (but you can never have to many LOL)

I have been feeling that way. I want so many hens. I love the different breeds. I love watching them. And they cuddle up to us. Probably due to always holding them so they know we won't hurt them. Our ducks are the same way. I love them. I can't help but want more. My husband has learned to get what I need -, food wise - and say nothing. If I need help cleaning he will. But the sentimental stuff is all me and the kids.

its is good for kids to learn, keep in mind as they get older they will shy away from the chickens more than likely.

but, in the future if things go bad, the kids will have knowledge on how to take care of the birds. to me that is important. when people stop to buy chicks here, if they have kids who take an interest I will usually give them a pair of millie fleur d'uccles, or black cochin bantams. whatever one I have the most of.

our generation almost forgot how to farm, so much knowledge that was commonplace a few years ago is nearly gone. I typically listen to the old timers methods and shy away from modern science as much as possible. but that is for you to decide. either method yields eggs and meat.

I can also remember the first murry mc murry book we got. my wife and I wore out the pages looking and picking out birds. in 3 years we have went from 6 chicks to around 500. with somewhere around 50 breeds total. of course not all of those are of age yet.

You all seem to be so nice. I love the open arms I feel from the welcomes. Thank you all so much.
I started with 10 hens and 3 roosters. After year one we added hens and downsized the many roosters we acquired down to our favorite. Adding ducks is great. I would never trade them in for anything. I surely love watching them. And I have sweet ducks. Love being held and rubbed. Spoiled birds.
