Not a BLRW?

I bought these 2 chicks as blue laced red wyandottes. They are 3 weeks, 2 days old. I'm thinking chick 1 is looking roo-ish with this comb already, but was told this doesn't even look like a BLRW. Any thoughts on breed and gender?

I see what you mean. The first bird, is that white on it's wing feathers? I agree, with that, it does not look like a BLR. The second looks like the "splash" color of the BLR.

I do think that first one looks like it has a roo comb. Maybe it's not a laced Wyandotte, it could be one of the other colors of the breed. I'm not too familiar with them, I only have 2, and they're both laced.

I'd let him feather out more (first is definitely a male). BLRs are notorious for having random colored chicks, and don't really have uniformity. The second is a splash (natural byproduct of breeding for BLRs).

Thanks so much! He was definitely darker than the splash at hatching. I'm excited to have a roo! I love them. I may have to eat those words one day, but for now I'm thrilled. I will post more pics in a couple weeks to see how he has changed by then.

I agree with Pele, just wait and see how things turn out. I had one slw chick that looked way different than the others, now you can't tell her apart.

Okay here is the pic I posted above a few days ago. More dark brown feathers coming in and ta-da! Wattles! Still roo?

Also, here are today's pics of the splash BLRW. Wide comb as well and wattles appeared today! Roo as well?
