This is linked to my post @if my hen is a rooster... evidently she is a she. Yesterday was a breakthrough!
Lil’One layed her first egg and prior to was fussing eggstremely as I tried to tend to coop duty, and coax her into either of 2 nests. She wasn’t having it. (One nest is an inch narrower accidentally) I saw they’d moved the golf ball from nest to nest—dunno how. I finished the roof repair and left them alone, her being cranky off and on. The other two were oblivious. And the ‘roo’ got itself into the bigger box and shuffled things around. I checked the box— empty. Oblivious to them the next morning—things got very quiet— she had settled in the nest. I left them be. 2 hours later I watched her dern near strut down the ramp, walk straight to the corn scattered and began scratching.
I lifted the cover to see...Lo & behold! An egg!!!
Hubby and I noted the larger Leghorn had done no chasing, no mating activity and I tested the egg later for viability. Nope. Yay! I’m sure I have 3 hens
I appreciate your all’s input— puzzle solved.
The smaller hen settled down, quite happy to scratch the straw on the ground.
