The woman who met me to take our EE roos, brought us a buff Brahma in exchange! She is beautiful! The kids have named her Nilla, so I am pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our flock: Nilla.

I'm a little worried about her feathered feet. I live in PA. Is there anything in particular I should watch for in colder weather?

I'm in the south so I have no direct experience with severe cold or deep snow, however Brahmas are reputed to be extremely cold-hardy.

Feathered feet can accumulate mud balls or, supposedly, snow balls in wet weather. I'm fortunate to be on sand so I never have that problem, but I've read threads where people had to do some foot cleaning during mud season.

Brahmas are the best! Such a chill breed.

I live in Colorado and we've never had issues with our Brahmas when its cold. I guess just make sure their feet don't get wet as those feathers would turn into ice blocks, but having a low moisture coop seems pretty standard for chicken care.
